AR2000 owners info.
This set has receive capability from 500kHz to 1300MHz, no gaps with modes AM, Narrow FM, Wide FM. All receiver information i.e. frequency, modulation mode, memory channel, is displayed on a LCD. A lamp is also provided to back illuminate the LCD. On pressing the LIGHT button, the lamp will light and stay lit for 6 seconds. A attenuator switch is provided at the top of the set (up='DX' / down='local') 10dB attenuation when set to 'local') Memory is an EEPROM (i.e. no battery backup required) of 1000 memories held as 10 'banks' of 100. Further more there are 100 programmable search banks (i.e. programmed to search between two specific frequencies with a given mode and step (increment). Specific memories and banks can be 'locked out'

Operation: (a) Manual Mode (b) Memory Mode (c) Scan Mode (d) Search Mode (a) Manual Mode: (1) To enter a frequency: Key in the digits. (i.e. to receive 145.000 MHz MANUAL - 145.000 - ENTER or MANUAL - 145. - ENTER ( if an invalid frequency is keyed the following will be displayed on the LCD: 'Fr. Err') (a-2) Manually tuning the set. To manually tune the set from the manually entered frequency just twist the rotary control on the top face of the cabinet. The increment is user defined (see below) (a-3)To alter the frequency 'increment' or 'step': This relates to the rotary tuning control, the default one being 12.5kHz. An increment can be selected of between 5 and 995 kHz but must be a multiple of 5kHz or 12.5kHz INC (desired step in kHz) ENTER i.e. INC - 25 - ENTER for a tuning step size of 0.025 MHz (25 kHz) (a-4) To change modulation mode (AM//NFM/WFM) Note: when you change mode while a memory bank number is showing, the setting of that memory bank may also be altered. It is recommended to key up mem. channel 000 (or any unused mem. channel) as a 'note pad' and used during manual operation. Press AM/FM to select AM or Narrow FM of W-FM to select Wide Band FM. (no need to press ENTER) (b) Memory Mode (b-1) To enter a displayed frequency and mode into memory. MANUAL - PROG (memory bank, channel) ENTER E.G. to enter the displayed freq. and mode into Memory bank 2, channel 30 MANUAL - PROG - 230 - ENTER (b-2) To enter a new freq. and mode into memory. Manual (freq. in MHz) ENTER (mod mode) PROG (mem. Bank, channel) i.e. to enter 145.0375 MHz, Narrow FM mode into mem bank 5 and channel 31 MANUAL - 145.0375 - ENTER - FM - PROG - 531 (b-3) To recall a stored mem channel. MANUAL BANK (mem bank, channel) to recall the contents of mem bank 2 channel 30 MANUAL - BANK - 230 (b-4) To delete the contents of a stored mem channel. MANUAL - CLEAR - ENTER - PROG - (mem bank and channel) Ex To clear the mem contents of bank 2, channel 30 MANUAL - CLEAR - ENTER - PROG - 230 (b-5) Memory lockout You can lockout a memory channel while in manual mode by first selecting the memory channel the press LOCKOUT. Lockout is confirmed by a flashing 'L.OUT' on the display. This is relevant to SCAN mode. To reinstate the locked out channel, key in the channel in manual mode by keying in the channel location and pressing LOCKOUT again. (b-6)Priority (Auxiliary) Channel. Any of the 1000 available channels may be used as the Aux. When activated, the receiver will 'pop over' to the priority channel to check for activity regardless of the current freq. or mode. To select the desired channel: MANUAL AUX PROG (mem bank, channel) - ENTER to select bank 6 channel 12 as the auxiliary: MANUAL - AUX - PROG - 612 - ENTER To activate or deactivate the Aux function: press MANUAL - AUX (c) Scan mode (c-1) To scan all memories: press: SCAN The set will scan all programmed mem channels. The squelch control must be set to mute the background noise before the set will scan. Problems: If the receiver refuses to scan the bank you want and instead 'jumps' banks you may have accidentally previously set Program Bank Scan. To clear this problem key in the following: SCAN - BANK - PROG - 0 - LIMIT - 9 - ENTER (c-2) Program Scan Bank To start scanning at a particular bank you can specify it as follows: SCAN - BANK - (desired starting bank no.) i.e. to start at Bank 6 enter: SCAN - BANK - 6 (The receiver starts at bank 6 but will then move on to bank 7,8,9,0,1,2,3,4,5, and again.) To program scan between specific scan Banks: SCAN BANK PROG (start bank number) LIMIT (end bank number) ENTER i.e. to scan between BANK1 and BANK 5: SCAN - BANK - PROG - 1 - LIMIT - 5 - ENTER To scan only one wanted bank: (i.e. bank 2) SCAN- BANK- PROG - (wanted bank) LIMIT (wanted bank) ENTER Memory LOCKOUT If during scan the receiver stops on a mem channel that is not desired, you may press the LOCKOUT key to skip the channel during the Scan. This is confirmed by a flashing 'L.OUT' on the LCD. To reinstate the channel before a future scan firstly go to manual mode key in the mem location and press LOCKOUT once. The flashing 'L.OUT' should disappear. Memory Group Lockout Choose the lowest channel number of the group you want to lockout. For example to lockout the group between MANUAL - BANK - 200 - LOCKOUT MANUAL (The receiver now advances to the next memory) - LOCKOUT MANUAL - LOCKOUT MANUAL - LOCKOUT MANUAL LOCKOUT etc until the ten are reached. (5) Memory bank lockout (All 100 memories of a particular bank) MANUAL BANK (bank number, 00) BANK - LOCKOUT i.e. to lockout memory bank 6 i.e. all memory locations between 600 and 699 MANUAL - BANK - 600 - BANK - LOCKOUT N.B. In the above, keying in any number between 600 and 699 instead of 600 will have same effect. To release a locked memory bank key the following: MANUAL BANK (bank number, 00) -LOCKOUT The flashing 'L.OUT' disappears from the display. Any channel which was individually locked out remains so. Search Mode. The set is capable of searching between 10 sets of user definable frequency limits known as Search banks. These are set at manufacture (and have legends i.e. Air band on the buttons 0-9) but any frequency ranges desired by the user can instead be programmed. In this mode the lower and upper limits are defined and the step size is specified (between 5kHz and 995kHz must be a multiple of 5kHz or 12.5 kHz.) (4-d) To Search all Search banks Press SEARCH (The receiver will search through Search Banks 0, 1, 2, .... 9, then start from bank 0 again.) To start searching form a particular search bank: SEARCH BANK (bank number) e.g. : to start searching at Search Bank 7 SEARCH - BANK - 7 (the receiver will search Search Bank 7 then 8 ,9,0,1,2,3,4,5,6 and repeat. To program a search of specific banks between Search Bank X and Search Bank Y SEARCH BANK PROG (start Search Bank) LIMIT (end Search Bank) ENTER Example to search between Bank 3 and Bank 6 SEARCH - BANK - PROG - 3 - LIMIT - 6 - ENTER to search only one bank i.e. bank 7: SEARCH - BANK - PROG - 7 - LIMIT - 7 - ENTER it will repeatedly search Bank 7. 3 Search frequency lockout: If during Search the set stops on a frequency that is not desired, press the LOCKOUT key to skip over the frequency. It will be skipped on future searches. Up to 100 frequencies may be locked out on each Search Bank range. 4b Search Bank lockout SEARCH - BANK - (number) - BANK - LOCKOUT To release a search Bank lockout key the following: SEARCH - BANK - (number) - LOGOUT 6. Reprogramming Search Bank limits. SEARCH - PROG - (start freq.) - LIMIT - (end frequency) - ENTER - (search step in kHz) - ENTER - - (mod. Mode) - ENTER - (bank number) - ENTER - SEARCH 7.Storing a frequency found by Search into memory. Press DELAY/HOLD button so that 'HOLD' symbol appears on the display. Press ENTER (type mem. bank, channel) Example: the set stops at 74.000 MHz during a Search. To save this freq. (and its mod. Mode) onto Memory bank 2, channel 27 press DELAY/HOLD - ENTER - 227

(" A wire link could be used in place of a diode for reset on the AR2000 (Applicable to the AR1000 as well")

Breaktrough issues:
FM Broadcast band (88-108MHz) breakthrough is noted when the scanner is on WFM mode and is tuned to displayed frequencies which are 26.0 MHz or 47.45 Mhz (weaker response) below strong signals of the 88-108MHz FM band. This also occurs with displayed frequencies up to 297MHz

TV frequencies: Displayed frequencies WFM between 287-600MHz will have breaktrough of transmissions 23MHz approx above (i.e 310-623MHz, including CHs 21-39). Also 1.5MHz above to a lesser extent. Displayed frequencies 600-800 (WFM only) will have breaktrough of strong signals 116.2MHz above (i.e. transmissions of 716.2-816.2MHz including TV CHs audio 51-63) Displayed frequencies 800-1110 (WFM only) will have breaktrough of strong signals 23MHz below (i.e 777-1087MHz including TV CHs audio 59-69)
